ALL HOGS GO TO HEAVEN PLACES 3RD OVERALL AT MODESTO -
MAY 2007
The Kingsford/Mastercut State
Barbeque Championship in Modesto, CA has become the
largest contest on the west coast sanctioned by the
Kansas City Barbecue Society. The quality of the
competition and the entire festival and track meet is
made possible through the sponsorship of Savemart
Supermarkets and their vendor partners, along with
community partners that have pledged to invest in the
quality of the communities in which they work and play.
The event has flourished due to the quality of the
competitors and the camaraderie that those involved in
Championship BBQ bring to the event. Modesto is a fun
place to be on May 4 & 5.
We left Lancaster on Thursday
with the wind blowing so hard that we were afraid we
were not going to make it to Gorman. We stayed the
night at the Visalia KOA so we could head out bright and
early on Friday morning. We got to Modesto and were met
by the Savemart team. They are always great to work
with and make the BBQers feel welcome and at home. The
wind blew most of the time, but not as bad as it was in
Lancaster. We entered the decorating your bbq area
contest, which was fun. Steve and Vince created a
“flying pig piñata”. They made it themselves out of
styrofoam, so it was creative and unique! All in all it
was a lot of fun just thinking of ideas for the
decorations.
In the meat categories we
received 1st place in ribs out of 38 teams.
In the brisket category we received 4th place
38 teams. We finished 3rd overall for the
day.
We would like to congratulate
all of the other BBQ winners and to thank Savemart,
Kingsford/Mastercut and all of the volunteers for making
this event such a success. It was fun to visit with all
of our bbq friends and we look forward to seeing
everyone next year!
