ALL
HOGS GO TO HEAVEN WINS DESSERT CATEGORY AT THE AUTRY
The first competition of
the year for the California Barbecue Association
(CBBQA), “BBQ’n at the Autry”, was held April 13 and 14
in Los Angeles, California. This event was sanctioned by
the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS) and featured the
4 meat categories of chicken, ribs, pull pork, and
brisket, as well as an “Anything Butt” category. The
“Anything Butt” southwest and dessert categories are a
fun event in which you can let your creative juices
flow. The rules state you can garnish and decorate as
needed but can only use a 12” by 18” tray. The team
practiced a lot to get the decorations and presentation
to fit the category as well as perfect our lemon squares
and taco salad recipes.
This was the first time we
entered the “Anything Butt” dessert category and what a
thrill when Arlie Bragg, event coordinator, announced,
“1st place out of 18 teams goes to All Hogs
go to Heaven”. The award was a beautiful engraved
cutting board and a check for $500. We also entered the
southwest category and received 10th place
out of 20 teams.
In the meat categories we
were called back on to the stage for 5th
place out of 32 teams in chicken and a $50 check. In
ribs we finished 16th, pull pork 30th,
and brisket 22nd for an overall placing of 23rd.
We would like to
congratulate all of the other BBQ winners and to thank
Arlie and all of the individuals that made this event at
the Autry a huge success. It was a great contest and a
lot of fun to see all of our many BBQ friends and
families! We had a great time.
