CLOVISFEST RED HOT &
REAL BBQ CHAMPIONSHIP
28 and 29 September
2007
The ClovisFest Red Hot &
Real BBQ Championship was held in cooperation with the
Clovis Chamber of Commerce and the annual ClovisFest.
This annual event draws over 70,000 people of all ages
and this year it had the second annual Red Hot & Real
Barbeque Championship Cook-off. This event is sanctioned
by the Kansas City Barbeque Society.
What a week before the
ClovisFest we had! We not only had to prepare to go to
the Clovisfest, but because of the date being the
weekend before the American Royal, made for double
planning. Ted wasn’t able to attend this event, because
he was getting ready for a Classic 57 Chevy show in
Temecula which would start on Monday the day after the
ClovisFest. Steve, Vince, and Ardith left Lancaster
early Friday morning for the drive to Clovis, and Toni
and Ron would follow later in the day. ClovisFest is
always a great contest with lots to do, so many crafts,
the balloons, and BBQ friends. We practiced our side
dishes for the American Royal on Friday eve. We had to
see if we could coordinate all 4 dishes using the space
available. It was really fun to see the pizza contest
on Sunday, who would have thought you could fix a pizza
on an egg cooker at a BBQ contest? They were
delicious!
In the contest we finished
3rd overall out of 37 teams. Results in each
category were Chicken 10th place, Ribs 5th
place, Pork 16th place, Brisket 3rd
place. In the special event on Sunday we finished 11th
overall out of 14 teams. Results in each category were
Chicken 3rd place and Tri Tip 13th
place.
It was a great contest and
was great to see all of our many BBQ friends at this
event. We look forward to next year’s competition!
