Beachfront BBQ
Imperial Beach
September 2007
The captivating aroma of
slow cooked meat filled Seacoast Drive as nine
competitive-level barbecue teams from across Southern
California participated in the 2007 Beachfront Barbecue
competition, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and
other local businesses. The 2007 Beachfront Barbecue
also featured a few new additions. Local band, Bustin'
Loose provided mellow tunes and nearly a dozen vendors
ranging from hand made jewelers to the Imperial Beach
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) gave attendees
other options to explore.
All Hogs go to Heaven was
hoping for a cool weekend at the beach as it had been
constantly over 100 degrees for days in the desert, but
it was not much cooler at Imperial Beach. Steve, Vince,
and Ardith left Lancaster on Saturday morning with QN4U
following us. Ted was attending a car show and wasn’t
able to join us. We got to Imperial Beach and were
greeted by Dave as he directed us to our spot. Toni and
Ron would join us later after they got off work.
We received the Reserve
Grand Champion overall, our second Reserve Grand
Champion in a week having finished with a reserve in
Salt Lake City, Utah. We received a 2nd in
chicken, 3rd in ribs, 3rd in pull
pork, and a 1st in Brisket. This was our
first 1st in Brisket ever! Special thanks to the
Chamber of Commerce for making the BBQ teams feel so
welcome, it’s a great venue and we look forward to
competing again next year!
