THE ULTIMATE BBQ
SHOWDOWN - EAST VS WEST
April 16 - 17, 2010
Wildomar, California
This was a first IBCA
event for the Ultimate BBQ Showdown and it was a great
beginning. This was truly a family event in a park with
lots of activities for young and old alike. The local
Rotary was the sponsor of this event and did an
excellent job of being organized.
Steve, Ted, and Ardith
left Lancaster on their way to Wildomar arriving around
1:00 pm and were greeted by Henry Silvestre. He had a
huge group of volunteers to help get things set up.
Vince was not able to come because of a work commitment.
Toni and Ron along with Ron’s brother Paul and wife
Lois, who were visiting from Carlisle, Pennsylvania,
came around 4:00 pm. We had an excellent dinner
consisting of Steve’s world famous pork chops!
This was a learning
experience for Paul and Lois who had only seen BBQ
contest on TV. Ron was to do the tri tip for the
anything butt category and Steve would do the beef
ribs. This IBCA event had a turn-in every hour starting
at noon until 4:00 pm. It was a beautiful day and lots
of people supported the event. Ted was the runner for
the day and thanks to Paul who walked each trip with him
everything was turned in on time.
We didn’t have power this
time so we had to be innovative on getting some things
done. Putting on the meat at just the right time was
critical in order to make the turn-ins.
Overall we finished 24th out of 32 teams,
with an 11th place in pull pork and an 11th
in beef ribs. All-in-all it was a great event and look
forward to next year. We would like to thank Kelly and
Kathleen McIntosh for being the reps and to Henry and
his group for making us feel welcome.
