2nd Annual Way Out West BBQ Competition
July 2 - 3, 2010
Weber Point Events Center, Stockton, California
What better way to celebrate
the most American of holidays than with a good old
fashion BBQ competition. The celebration began on July
2nd as competition BBQ teams from across the Western
United States converged at Weber Point Events Center to
compete for cash, bragging rights, and a State
Championship BBQ title.
This is a great event that we
participated in last year and were looking forward to
again this year. Ted and Ardith left on Thursday and
spent the night with their daughter Julie and son-in-law
Rick in Discovery Bay. Steve would leave early on July
2nd and meet Ted and Ardith at the BBQ site. We were in
place and set up by noon. Toni and Ron also drove and
arrived later in the day. At our BBQ site we had a BBQ
steak dinner on Friday eve along the Sacramento River.
The next morning everyone was
at their appointed tasks getting ready for the
turn-ins. Julie and Annette, Ted and Ardith’s
daughters, and their two granddaughters, Taylor and
Jordyn, also attended the event.
At the end of the day the
overall results were 7th overall out of 40 teams, with a
4th in chicken, 30th in ribs, 5th in pull pork, and 7th
in brisket. This finish put us in 1st for team of the
year in chicken and 1st in pull pork for the California
BBQ Association TOY competition.
Thanks go to Ben Lobenstein and Ric
Gilbert for a very successful contest. Also, to Kelly
and Kathleen McIntosh for an outstanding job!
