Vista Smokin' Q Classic
Vista, CA
August 5 - 6, 2011
On August 5th and 6th the Vista Village
Business Association in conjunction with When Pigs Fly
BBQ hosted Vista’s third annual “Smokin’ Q Classic” a
California State Championship BBQ competition. The event
was held in historic Downtown Vista, CA and welcomed
Competition BBQ Teams from all over the tri-state area.
Vista’s great weather was a welcome
change from our 100 degree days in the high desert.
When we arrived it was 75 degrees and it remained cool
thru the weekend.
The awards ceremony at this event was one
for the record books. There was so much excitement
because so many different teams took “the walk” in all
categories. The suspense continued through each
category as Dale Ginos announced the winners. It was
anyone’s game up until the end, with Andy Soto from
Master of Disaster taking the Grand Champion.
We placed 19th overall out of 41 teams,
with a 37th in chicken, 11th in ribs, 2nd in pull pork,
and 27th in brisket. There was a dessert contest with
14 teams participating in a winner-take-all event. All
Hogs go to Heaven placed 1st in the dessert category,
and also received a perfect KCBS 180 point score
presented by Kelly and Kathleen McIntosh.
It was truly an outstanding event and our
thanks go to Dale and Tammy Ginos from When Pigs Fly for
all of their effort in making this competition so
successful. Kelly and Kathleen McIntosh did an
outstanding job, as always.
