Vista Rod
Run and Smokin' Q Classic
July 31 -
August 1, 2009
Vista,
California
The Vista Village Business
Association held the 20th Annual Vista Rod Run and
Smokin' Q Classic - a California State Championship
Barbeque Competition sanctioned by the Kansas City
barbeque Society. The car show on Sunday was one of the
largest in the San Diego area as well as one of Vista's
biggest community events. Car lovers drooled over more
than 300 of the finest hot rods around. This year a
portion of the proceeds will benefit Girls Inc. of San
Diego.
We were hoping for some
cooler weather in Vista, and although it was cooler, it
was muggy making the afternoon very warm! Steve, Ted,
and Ardith left Lancaster and arrived in Vista around
2:00 pm just in time for the check-in. Toni and Ron came
around 5:00 pm. Our assigned location was in a bank
parking lot. The venue was great with teams located
along Main Street in old downtown Vista.
On the
day of the bbq competition all went well and we finished
9th overall, with a 13th in
Chicken, 8th in Ribs, 17th in pull
pork, and 6th in Brisket. We wish to thank
Larry Schroeder and Dale Ginos for all their efforts in
making this contest a truly fun event. A thank you to
Kelly and Kathleen MacIntosh for their dedication in
making each bbq event they represent a professional one.
Steve, Ted, and Ardith headed to the Elks campground
after the event, and had a wonderful time with fellow
bbq’ers. Our congratulations to Bill and Dan, Tropical
Heat, for their Grand Champion win, it was well
deserved.
