1st Annual
Wild West BBQ Bash
July 10 -
11, 2009
Santa
Maria,
California
The Family Care Network’s
1st annual Wild West BBQ Bash was a family-friendly
event with something for everybody. This event provided
World-class BBQ as teams from Santa Maria and around the
state compete for the Wild West crown! The event also
featured live music, great food from local vendors, and
family activities such as face painting, performances,
balloon animals, games, and more. Admission was free and
all proceeds raised at the event benefited foster and
high-needs children and families served by the Family
Care Network!
This IBCA BBQ competition
was held at Santa Maria’s Preisker Park. It was a great
venue with lots of cool green grass with huge shade
trees. Ted and Ardith left on Friday morning and
visited with their daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids
in Santa Maria. At about 2:30 pm we arrived at the BBQ
site just as Steve drove in. Toni and Ron left on
Friday also, but spent the night in Solvang before
coming to the competition on Saturday. Vince would come
later on Saturday with our brother Art. We parked next
to QN4U and Tropical Heat which is always a lot of fun.
Because of the location it
was convenient for a lot of our family members to attend
this BBQ and then proceed to the beach for the rest of
the weekend. It was great to escape the 100 plus
degrees of the Mojave Desert. Those attending were Ted
and Ardith’s daughter Annette, husband Shayne,
granddaughters Taylor and Jordyn, brother Art and his
wife Joanne, grandson Keyler, sister Pat and husband
Craig, niece Michele and husband Erik, and son Ryan,
nephew Craigie and girlfriend Linda, several members of
Joanne’s family also attended.
In the contest we finished
11th overall, 9th in chicken, 9th
in ribs, 8th in brisket. Thanks for everyone
that helped with this event, looking forward to next
year.
