Sam’s Club National BBQ Tour
April 15-16 in Sacramento, CA (first round)
and
May 6-7 in
Las Vegas, NV (second round)
February 8 at 9:00 am was
the starting time for on line entry into the inaugural
Sam's Club National BBQ Tour. Only the first 30 teams
to enter would be able to compete in the Sacramento,
California region contest. All Hogs go to Heaven made
the cut and would be heading up north for the
competition. It was exciting to participate in this
event that would eventually encompass the entire United
States with the final October championship barbeque
contest in Bentonville, Arkansas.
At the Sam’s club parking
lot in Sacramento, everyone gathered for the weekend.
We met Troy Black who is attending all of the events
representing Sam's Club. The competition was intense as
only the top 7 out of the 30 teams would be able to go
on to Las Vegas, Nevada for the second round.
All Hogs finished 5th out
of the 30 teams and did qualify to continue to the next
level. We received 7th in chicken, 8th in ribs, 4th in
Pull Pork, and 23rd in Brisket.
In North Las Vegas, NV at
the Sam’s Club parking lot 30 teams made up of the top 7
winners from Gilbert, AZ, Sacramento, CA, Santa Fe, NM,
and Loveland, CO. plus 2 wild card teams, gathered to
work their BBQ magic. Friday evening Sam’s club provided
all the teams with a huge steak dinner and all the
trimmings.
In Las Vegas, NV we
finished 16th out of the 30 teams receiving 15th in
chicken, 21st in ribs, 7th in Pull Pork, and 21st in
Brisket.
Even thought we didn’t
make the top 10 in Las Vegas, NV and will not get to go
on to Bentonville, we would like to thank Sam’s Club for
sponsoring such a well run and professional events. We
wish all the teams going on in the competition the very
best.
