MODESTO BBQ
MAY
9-10, 2008
This
is the 3rd year for All Hogs go to Heaven at
the 5th Annual Modesto Blues, Brews, and
Barbeque contest. There were 48 teams competing which
would prove to be a challenge. Ted and Ardith left on
Thursday and Steve left early Friday and we all met on
Tully Street. Vince had worked 10 days in a row in order
to get off work and attend this event, but at the last
minute wasn’t able to attend. Hopefully, he will come to
Boulder City, Nevada. Toni and Ron would drive up from
San Bernardino Friday for the event. We were parked next
to BBQ Dan and it was great to see all the BBQ teams we
usually compete against. As time has gone on special
friendships have been made at these BBQ competitions!
On
Saturday everyone had their jobs to do and Steve had
gotten up early to make sure the wood temperature was
just right. Lots of activities were going on at the
BBQ. The track meet at Modesto College had been
advertised as the “Road to Beijing” as this was a
qualifier for the 2008 Olympics.
We
entered the “Anything Butt”, “little sausages” and
received 17th place out of 21 teams. In the 4
meat categories; we received 3rd in chicken,
19th in ribs, 44th in pull pork,
and 24th in brisket out of 48 teams. We
finished 21st overall.
That
evening we parked in a parking lot where Big Mike had
provided movies on the side of his trailer. It was like
the old drive in Movie Theater, made a nice ending to a
fun BBQ competition. Thanks to Ben Lobenstein for all of
his help and hard work, we missed seeing Nate.
