Smokin' in Mesquite BBQ Championship

Mesquite, Nevada

 This contest originally started out to be a Friday and Saturday contest, but they changed it to a Saturday and Sunday event.  Steve decided to go because of the date change and he wouldn’t have to take any leave from work.  This event brought out some great teams from several different states.  Ted and Ardith had already planned on going to see All hogs webmaster (their daughter) Julie and Rick Smith in Dallas, Texas.  So Steve would have to do this contest alone.  He recruited a co-worker Keith Spencer to accompany him on this big adventure.

They left Lancaster in the middle of the night in order to beat the heat and headed to Mesquite.  The heat did prevail, but luckily they had reserved a room with air conditioning.   Steve and Keith prepped the meat in the trailer and prepared the garnish for the boxes in their room.  It was quite an experience and the maid will always be wondering just what transpired in that area!  Steve must have missed Ted and Ardith, because at the next competition he brought them a dozen roses, 6 for Ardith and 6 for Ted.

Overall they had a great finish as they got 16th overall out of 43 teams, with a 19th in chicken, 35th in ribs, 11th in pull pork, and 2nd in brisket.  (2nd in brisket in this field of pitmasters was really a huge win)!!!   We wish to thank Arlie Bragg for an excellent job in repping this event.
