Thanks
to Tom Emery for another great IBCA BBQ contest in
conjunction with the Hesperia Recreation and Park
District to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay
for Life. This is a great location with a park, car
show, and BBQ, what could be better? Perhaps a little
less wind and sand would have done the trick. The winds
were about 25 miles per hour for both Friday and
Saturday that along with the sand made cooking a real
challenge.
Ted and Ardith arrived on Friday afternoon and luckily
had brought the enclosed car trailer with an entry for
the car show on Saturday. We used the trailer as a wind
block; however we couldn’t stop the sand from coming
under the trailer. Steve and Vince arrived about an
hour later. Toni and Ron came around dinner time which
we had in the camper to stay out of the wind. A new
team called Patti Wagon parked across from us and it was
a fun weekend hanging out with them.
In spite of the wind and sand we did very well at the
awards finishing 4th overall out of 31
teams. All hogs go to Heaven won 6th in
chicken, 11th in ribs, 7th in pull
pork, and 2nd in brisket.
We want to thank Kelly and Kathleen McIntosh for being
the BBQ representatives. This was the first BBQ contest
of the season and because it was close to home, it gave
us a chance to easily get the bugs worked out. We look
forward to a great year!
