Little Engine that Could BBQ Contest
December 10 – 11, 2011
Vista, California
Located on 55 acres of rolling farm ground the, Antique
Gas & Steam Engine Museum located in Vista, Ca was the
sight of a new BBQ contest called “Little Engine that
Could”. The
Museum's collections focus on the 1849 through the early
1960’s era with exhibits that actively demonstrate farm
equipment and tools from horse drawn through modern row
crop.
Unique from traditional Museums, this collection is
maintained in operating condition and used during a wide
range of events held on the grounds. In addition to the
tractors there is a weaving exhibit, blacksmith shop,
and N’ Scale Model Railroad building.
It was interesting to take a walk through time
viewing the exhibits.
All Hogs were in place by Friday evening and begin
preparing the meat for the next days contest.
This event was two contests back to back, so all
the preparations for the one day had to be repeated the
next. We
also participated in the Iron Chef event in which there
was one ingredient provide by Henry the event organizer.
The secret ingredient was “peanut butter”!
Now what to do with that ingredient was a
challenge.
The turn in time was 7:00 pm with many great ideas
presented.
We learned that we need to use big “adjectives” to
describe our dish.
All in all this was a great event for All Hogs go to
Heaven. On the 1st day we were 4th place overall out of
29 teams, with a 3rd in chicken, 3rd
in ribs, 7th in pork, and 14th in
brisket. On
the 2nd day we were 4th overall
out of 30 teams, with a 7th in chicken, 13th
in ribs, 5th in pork, and 4th in
brisket. We
didn’t place in the iron chef category.
All Hogs wishes to thank Henry
Silvestre for another great contest.
Also, special thanks
Dave and Lori Lopp for being the representatives for
this contest.
As of 20 December 2011 in the overall Kansas City BBQ
Association ratings All Hogs go to Heaven is ranked 102
out of 6,919 BBQ teams throughout the world.
