Dueling BBQ Competition
October 3
- 4, 2009
Lancaster,
California
You would think that since
the BBQ was a home game for us that we would have been
better organized. At first we thought this would be
simple, and then realized we needed to plan the same if
we were going 5 miles or 500 miles. The Antelope Valley
Fairgrounds was a perfect setting for a BBQ
competition. The only thing that didn’t go well was the
weather, but in spite of it all everyone had a great
time. At this event we had a full team for All Hogs
including: Steve, Vicki, Vince, Toni, Ron, Ted, and
Ardith.
Smitty's Smoke Patrol won
the Grand Champion in Clovis and stated he would provide
pizza at the Lancaster Dueling BBQ on Friday eve. A
building on the fairgrounds made a great spot to get in
out of the weather and have a potluck and pizza party.
Steve had worked with the
Antelope Valley Chamber of Commerce on the idea of
having a BBQ competition at the annual flea market. On
Sunday the car show, flea market, and the dueling BBQ
drew a huge crowd. Ted showed his 1957 Chevy in the car
show, but still had to come back and do the running for
the turn-ins. Vicki and Vince helped with the people’s
choice in serving samples to the public.
At the awards All Hogs go
to Heaven won the People’s choice! We received 10th
overall out of 23 teams. We placed 12th in
chicken, 16th in ribs, 8th in pull
pork, and 6th in brisket. Thanks to Kelly and
Kathleen MacIntosh for an outstanding job as the reps
for this event. Special thanks to Mark Davey and all of
the Antelope Valley Chamber of Commerce team, it was a
great event and we look forward to next year’s
competition.
