1st Annual Dana Point BBQ Championship

The Dana Point Chamber of
Commerce did an outstanding job making the BBQ teams
feel welcome. Ted, Ardith, and Peg Olasin left
Lancaster on Thursday to venture down to Dana Point. It
was a beautiful venue, with the fresh sea air and grass
all around. Steve came early on Friday morning and we
were all set for the event. We all took a walk down to
the beach in the morning taking the beautiful landscaped
path. It turned out to be quite a hike but worth every
step of the way.
On Saturday, Vince and
Doug came early for breakfast to get the day started off
right. We all worked hard on getting our entries to the
judge’s tent on time. There was also a dessert contest
that would follow after the meats. Later in the day
Doug’s Aunt and Uncle joined us along with our niece and
nephew Kim and Mark Akin for some lst place ribs and
pull pork.
We placed 17 out of 48
teams with 31st in chicken, 1st in ribs, 16th in pork,
and 24th in brisket. We ended up 4th in dessert out of
15 teams. We wish to thank the Dana Point Chamber of
Commerce, Arlie Bragg, and Kelly and Kathleen McIntosh
for a great event. We hope they continue this event
next year.
