BEST DAM BARBECUE CONTEST

BOULDER CITY, NV

MAY 23-24, 2008

The Best Dam Barbecue is an official Nevada state championship challenge, sanctioned by KCBS. There were 28 teams from California, Arizona, Utah, and New York. All Hogs go to Heaven and Papa’s Smokehouse from Morango Valley were the only teams from California. This is our 3^rd year in competing at this event. The venue is a community effort and a great setting at the local park. Ted and Ardith met Toni and Ron in Barstow on Thursday to pick up additional supplies. Toni and Ron would fly to Boulder City the next day. Vince had to work so he would not be attending. We miss him! Steve would drive early on Friday morning to the designated space for All Hogs go to Heaven on the street next to the park. 

The weather for this event wasn’t the best, but it did beat the heat from last year. It rained, hailed, and the wind blew, but through it all we had a great time. We entered the dessert category on Friday evening and placed 8^th out of 11 teams. Toni did a great job at decorating the dessert tray.

Steve got up early on Saturday morning to start cooking the meat. It was cool and damp again with rain off and on throughout the day. The local people still came out to support this great event.

We finished 5^th overall out of 28 teams.  We received 8^th place in chicken, 5^th in ribs, 12^th in pull pork, and 9th in Brisket. All in all it was a great time and we look forward to attending next year.
