Best Dam Barbecue Contest
May
28 - 29, 2010
Boulder City, Nevada
The
Best Dam Barbecue is an official Nevada state
championship challenge, sanctioned by KCBS. There were
37 teams from California, Arizona, Montana and Utah.
This is our 5th year in competing at this event. The
venue is a community effort with a great setting at the
local park. Ted and Ardith left on Thursday for Boulder
City and spent the night in a campground near the BBQ
area. Toni and Ron drove over on Friday, and Steve left
for Boulder City at 2:00 am Friday morning. Vince had
to work so he would not be attending. We miss him!
Steve, Ted, and Ardith met Friday at the designated
space for All Hogs go to Heaven next to the park. We
all went to breakfast at a near by restaurant, it’s been
a tradition for the past 4 years.
Otherwise, the weather for this event was very windy,
but that was good because it would have really been hot.
We entered the “Anything butt” and the “dessert”
categories on Friday evening. It’s always a fun contest
to do, Steve did the anything butt and Toni did the
dessert. We placed lst with the anything butt! Dessert
placed 6th out of 7. Toni did a great job at decorating
both trays.
Steve
got up early on Saturday morning to start cooking the
meat. This event has really grown over the past 4 years
that we have been going. As in years past there was a
classic car show in the park. This year it was a huge
success with over 100 cars on display. Ted was really in
“hog heaven” or was it “classic car heaven”.
We
finished 5th overall out of 37 teams. We
received 15th place in chicken, 7th
in ribs, 8th in pull pork, and 16th in Brisket. All in
all it was a great time and we look forward to attending
next year. Gene Goycochea, Kelly and Kathleen McIntosh
did a great job of representing this event. Its amazing
how they keep everything in order, we are lucky to have
them in California.
