Bakersfield’s Biggest Baddest BBQ Championship
May 20-21, 2011
Bakersfield, California
This was the third annual
Bakersfield Biggest Baddest BBQ Championship. 100% of
net proceeds benefit the Children's Medical Center
(Children's Miracle Network) at Bakersfield Memorial
Hospital. The venue this year had been changed from a
park to the Bakersfield Fairgrounds. It was great
because we were on grass and also had plenty of room.
No visit to Bakersfield is complete unless you go to the
Wool Growers Basque Restaurant. It’s become an annual
event to get set up and then head over to the Basque
place for a wonderful lunch.
The next morning the BBQ
center area was changed into a playground for kids.
There were several bounce houses, pony rides, and a
petting zoo. Vince and Doug joined us on this BBQ
adventure, as well as, our cousin Charlene and husband
Duwaine Branch came to visit.
We placed 3rd out of 43
teams with a 2nd in chicken, 3rd in ribs, 7th in pull
pork, and 19th in brisket.
We would like to thank
Kelly and Kathleen McIntosh for another outstanding
judging event. Mike George was a great promoter having
everything the BBQ teams would need when they needed
it. We are definitely looking forward to coming again
next year.
As you can see in the
picture The Out of this World BBQ competition team has
opened a restaurant in Apple Valley, California and has
named their pull pork sandwich after our team. It’s
called the “All Hogs go to Heaven pull pork sandwich”.
We are very honored that Todd Eves thought of us when
planning out his menu. We wish him and his wife the
very best with their new business!
