Biggest, Baddest Barbecue Championship (KCBS)

June 5 - 6, 2009

Bakersfield, California 

As it turns out, there were two California BBQ Association team of the year contests on the same day - one in Bakersfield and one in Penn Valley in northern California. Since Bakersfield is closer to home, All Hogs go to Heaven chose the Biggest Baddest Barbecue at Stramler Park in Bakersfield. Ted and Ardith had a conflict with a car show in Lompoc that same weekend, so were not able to attend. Toni and Ron rented a motorhome and would be there as well as Steve and Vince to represent the team. Steve and Vince left Lancaster on Friday afternoon and were parked and set by the time that Toni and Ron arrived from San Bernardino. 

This BBQ benefited the Children Miracle Network charity. What makes going to the BBQ contests worthwhile; the opportunity to “give back” to the community, plus meeting such nice people along the way. It was great to see Kim and Brent (QN4U) competing again. They parked next to Steve and Vince and of course the “stories” being told went way into the night!

At the awards ceremony All Hogs go to Heaven finished 4^th overall out of 36 teams. We received 13^th in chicken, 7^th in ribs, 4^th in pulled pork, and 6^th in brisket. This was an outstanding event and one that we hope will continue next year. Thanks to all who made this event a success!
