Hava BBQ Competition
February 26 - 27, 2010
Lake Havasu City,
Arizona
The Daybreakers Lions
International had their first Kansas City BBQ
Association (KCBS) contest in Lake Havasu City, Arizona
and did a fantastic job of presenting the BBQ
community a 1st class team-friendly contest. They had
worked for almost a year traveling to BBQ competitions
throughout the state and with a turnout out of 76 teams
all of their hard work paid off.
It was a beautiful ride
across the desert to Lake Havasu as all the rain made
the desert have a green hue. Ted and Ardith left on
Thursday ahead of Steve and Ed. We eventually met up at
the Havasu Falls RV resort for the evening. The next
day we ventured to the BBQ site to get set up for the
weekend. Toni and Ron drove over on Friday and were
just in time for the Anything Butt contest.
On Saturday it was a busy
day getting all of the meats cooked and to the judging
stand on time. All day long we were hoping the rain
wouldn’t come as Steve’s wife Vicki kept texting and
telling us it was pouring down rain at home.
Fortunately, the rain held off until about 9:00 pm that
night. Our friend Joyce Macheca from Wickenburg, AZ
came to visit us and her Mom and Dad Joan and John
Bergner gave All Hogs the little pig cookie jar shown
above. It’s a great addition to our hog collection!
We finished 31st
out of 76 teams with a 40th in chicken, 20th
in ribs, 43 in pork, and 27th in brisket.
The anything butt category we received 3rd
out of 17 teams and dessert placed 5th out of
17 teams.
We wish to thank all the
representatives and the Daybreakers Lions for an
outstanding event & a great weekend. We look forward to
coming back next year.
